Winter Haven, FL- The Framingham State University baseball team swept a doubleheader vs. Sewanee by the score if 17-3 and 14-5. The Rams improved to 5-5 while Sewanee is 8-9. The Rams were paced on the day by senior Matt Gerard (Milford) who went 7-for-9 with 7 RBI in the doubleheader.
In the opener, the Rams scored 2 in the first and one in the second before unloading 7 runs in the third inning and 7 more in the fifth. Gerard was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, junior R.J. Gray (Lowell) was 3-for-5 and senior Ivan Colon (Waltham) was 3-for-3 with two walks. Seniors Mark Mainini (Hull) & Kevin Driscoll (Chelmsford) both had 3 RBI each.
Starter Chris Monroe (Ayer/ Fitchburg) earned the victory giving up 3 runs, 2 earned and scattering 7 hits in five innings of work. Matt McIsaac (Peabody) gave up one hit in an inning of work and Dan Moran (Malden) pitched at 1-2-3 seventh to close out the game.
After a scoreless first in game 2 the Rams broke out for 5 in the second and 4 in the third en route to a 14-5 victory.
Gerard was 4-for-5 with 5 RBI while John Gill and Gray (Hudson) both tallied 3 hits apiece in the nightcap. Gill, Jordan Pallazola (Rockport/ Glucester) and Jake Wardwell (Hudson) all picked up 2 RBI in the victory.
Kevin Connelly (Bolton/ Nashoba Valley) gave up 2 runs on 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work for the victory. Brendan McDonough (Chelmsford/Bridgton) scattered 5 hits giving up a run in 1.2 innings while Tevin Moore (Fitchburg) gave up 2 runs on one hit and one walk in an inning of work. Brian Quinn (Fall River/ Bishop Connolly) shut the door with a scoreless seventh.
The Rams are now 7-5 on the year and will resume the northern portion of their schedule on Wednesday night when they host Lesley at 7 p.m. at the NEBC in Northborough.
