Amherst Escapes with a Pair of Victories over Baseball

Lakeland, Fla. – The Framingham State University baseball team suffered a pair of defeats this morning to Amherst College in a doubleheader at Henley Field at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.  The Lord Jeffs won the opener 6-4 and then held off the Rams for a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.

The Rams are now 3-4 on the season, while Amherst moves to 3-3 on the year.

Junior Dillon Corliss (Winterport, ME) suffered the loss on the hill for the Rams in the opener going five innings and allowing six runs, all earned, on seven hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Junior Brendan McDonough (Chelmsford, Mass.) tossed an inning of scoreless relief for the Rams.

Senior John Gill (Hudson, Mass.) led the Rams at the plate going 3-for-4 with a solo homerun, while seniors Billy Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Mark Mainini (Hull, Mass.) each recorded a double in the game.  Freshman Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.) and juniors RJ Gray (Lowell, Mass.) and Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) each picked up an RBI to account for the Rams final three runs.

In the night cap, the Rams plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull within one, but Amherst was able to close the door and secure their second victory of the day.

Seniors Matt Gerard (Milford, Mass.), Ivan Colon (Waltham, Mass.) and Kevin Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the Rams at the plate in game two with a pair of hits apiece, while Pallazola collected his second RBI on the day with his double.

Senior Zack Kirby (Rochester, Mass.) suffered the loss going the distance and allowing five runs, all earned, on 10 hits with nine strikeouts and a single walk.

The Rams will enjoy an off day tomorrow and are back in action on Thursday at the RussMatt games when they face Wisconsin-Whitewater at 1 p.m.
