Baseball Cruises Past William Paterson 9-3

Winter Haven, Fla. – Senior Billy Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs as the Framingham State University baseball team defeated William Paterson 9-3 this afternoon at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

With the victory the Rams even their season mark at 2-2, while the loss is William Paterson's first of the season as they are now 3-1.

The Rams jumped on the board in their first at bat taking a lead that they would not relinquish.  Derosier plated a pair of runs in the opening frame on a two run homer that scored classmate Mark Mainini (Hull, Mass.), who had singled earlier in the inning.  RJ Gray (Lowell, Mass.) was hit by a pitch and John Gill (Hudson, Mass.) followed with an RBI double giving the Rams a 3-0 advantage.

William Paterson got one back in the bottom of the inning, but the Rams responded with a single run in the top of the second on Matt Gerard's (Milford, Mass.) second homerun of the season.

Paterson scored single runs in the third and eighth to account for their final two runs, while the Rams tallied two in the fifth and eighth and one in the seventh to reach the final differential.

Freshman Kevin Connelly (Bolton, Mass.) earned the victory on the hill for the Rams in his first collegiate start.  Connelly went seven and two thirds allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts.  Freshman Chris Riga (Westfield, Mass.) tossed an inning of scoreless relief, while senior Daniel Moran (Medford, Mass.) recorded the final out.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow against New England College at the RussMatt Tournament with the first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m.
