Baseball Eliminated from MASCAC Tournament with 8-5 Loss to Westfield State

Worcester, Mass. – The third seed Framingham State University baseball team was eliminated from the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament with an 8-5 loss this morning to fourth seed Westfield State University.

With the victory the Owls (17-18-1) advance to the loser's bracket final later this afternoon where they will meet the loser of the Salem State/Worcester State game.  The Rams are now 20-18 on the year and await word of a possible ECAC Tournament bid.

Westfield State took a 4-0 lead with a single run in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth before the Rams got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homerun to right by junior Mark Mainini (Hull, Mass.).

The Rams added two more in the bottom of the fifth on RBI fielder's choices by seniors Matt Roberge (Lowell, Mass.) and Billy Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

The Rams took the lead in the bottom of the sixth on their second homerun of the game. This one was a two run shot to right by senior Anthony Iafolla (Medfield, Mass.).

Westfield State scored the game deciding runs in the top of the seventh and added another in the eighth to reach the final margin.

Junior Zack Kirby (Rochester, Mass.) was tagged with the loss going eight and 2/3 innings allowing eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.
