Baseball Upended by Johnson & Wales

Providence, RI - The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated this afternoon by Johnson and Wales University 13-2 in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 13-2 on the season, while the Rams see their recorded level off at 6-6.

Junior Ivan Colon (Waltham, Mass.) led the rams at the plate going 1 for 4 with an RBI, while senior Matt Roberge (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Matt Gerard (Milford, Mass.) picked up a hit a piece and scored each of the Rams two runs.

Johnson and Wales struck in the bottom of the first for five runs, but the Rams countered with two in the fourth cut the deficit down to three.  The Wildcats would answer with a single run in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the eighth to reach the final score.

Senior Matt DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) picked up the loss on the hill for the Rams going six innings and allowing nine runs, six earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts.  Sophomore Chris Monroe (Fitchburg, Mass.) tossed an inning of scoreless relief and junior Dan Moran (Malden, Mass.) surrendered four runs in an inning of relief.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday afternoon with a non-conference game at UMass Dartmouth.
