Lakeland, Fla.- Senior Forrest Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI as the third-ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies shut out the Framingham State University Rams, 10-0, in a non-conference game Friday night at Henley Field.

The win lifts the Huskies overall record to 8-3.  The Rams dropped their third straight to slide to 6-5.  The game was called after six-and-a-half innings on the ten-run rule.

Chadwick had an RBI double in the first inning and an RBI single in the fifth to pace the Huskies 10-hit attack.  Senior Chris Bernard (Scarborough, Maine) also had a double and a single with a run scored and one RBI.

Junior right-hander Alex Tobey (South Berwick, Maine) picked up the win on the mound going five innings.  Sophomores Dan Kinnon (Londonderry, N.H.) and Ryan Browner(Georgetown, Mass.) and rookie Evan Haferman (Marblehead, Mass.) combined to pitch two shutout innings in relief.

Junior Matt Gerard (Milford, Mass.) went 3 for 3 with two doubles for the Rams.  Sophomore Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) had the Rams other two hits.  Junior right-hander Zack Kirby (Rochester, N.H.) started on the mound and took the loss.

USM grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by senior John Carey (South Portland, Maine) and back-to-back RBI doubles from Chadwick and Bernard.

The Huskies made it 4-0 in the second inning as junior Brendon Joyce (Standish, Maine) led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from rookie Paul McDonough (Wells, Maine).

The 10-run rule came into play when the Huskies put up six runs in the fifth inning.  The Huskies sent 10 men to the plate getting four hits and a hit batsman, and took advantage of three FSU errors. Chadwick and Bernard each had a single in the inning, and freshmen Matt Bender (Walpole, Mass.) and George Tsonis (Peabody, Mass.) each had an RBI single.

The Rams best scoring opportunity came in the top of the fifth inning when they loaded the bases against Tobey.  Tobey escaped getting a fielder's choice putout at second base to end the inning.

Southern Maine finishes its 10-game Florida trip on Saturday (1:30 p.m.) playing Amherst College at Chain O Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla.  Framingham State plays next at Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).
