DiCato Named MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Buzzards Bay, Mass. – Junior pitcher Matt DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 28th.  This is DiCato's second Pitcher of the Week honors this season.   

DiCato posted a pair of wins and two saves in four appearances this week as the Rams went 5-2 and locked up the second seed in the MASCAC Baseball Championships.  DiCato lost a perfect game and no hitter with two outs in the seventh inning in a 6-0 victory over MCLA. He tossed a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 triumph over Bridgewater State University on Saturday and saved both ends of a twinbill sweep at conference leader Salem State. DiCato is leading the MASCAC in victories this season as he has compiled a 6-1 record with a 1.95 ERA.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom.  MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men's ice hockey and football, while Western Connecticut State University will join the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
