Baseball Pounds out 16 Hits in Game 1 Victory over Fitchburg State

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team took game one of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) baseball doubleheader this afternoon with Fitchburg State University by a score of 15-2 before the Falcons rebounded with a 7-4 triumph in game two.

After the split, the Rams are now 4-4 in the MASCAC and 10-17 overall on the year, while the Falcons are 11-14-1 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

The Rams offense erupted for 15 runs on 16 hits in the opener.  Sophomore infielder Mark Mainini (Hull, Mass.) went 2-for-4 at the dish with three runs scored and five RBI, while junior Anthony Iafolla (Medfield, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Sophomore Cameron Couillard (North Andover, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs on a base hit, while freshman outfielder Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Junior Ivan Colon (Waltham, Mass.) and seniors Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Justin Forman (Watertown, Mass.) picked up two hits apiece in the game with Crofton crossing the plate three times.

In game two, the Falcons used a five run fifth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit and take the lead for good.  Sophomore Thomas Simas (Cambridge, Mass.) was tagged with the loss for the Rams as he went four and a third allowing seven earned runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Couillard and Forman each went 2-for-4 at the plate in game two with Couillard scoring twice and Forman driving in a run.  Mainini followed up his game one performance going 1-for-3 in game two with an RBI.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Eastern Nazarene at Bowditch Field. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
