Baseball Scores Twice in 9th to Defeat Plattsburg

Winter Haven, Fla. – The Framingham State University baseball team scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Plattsburg State 2-0 this afternoon at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.  The Rams are now 3-6 on the young season.

Freshman Dillon Corliss (Winterport, ME), sophomore Kevin Valley (Burlington, Mass.) and freshman Patrick Holden (Stoneham, Mass.) combined for the shutout on the hill for the Rams.  Corliss started the contest and went 6.2 innings scattering six hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks.  Valley tossed 2/3 of an inning of scoreless relief surrendering just one hit and a pair of walks.  Holden tossed 1 2/3 innings striking out five and not surrendering a hit as he recorded the victory.

The Rams broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the top of the ninth.  Sophomore Cameron Couillard (North Andover, Mass.) singled and reached second on an error on a fielder's choice giving the Rams runners on first and second with one out.  Junior Ivan Colon (Waltham, Mass.) walked to load the bases and junior Billy Desroiser (Shrewsbury, Mass.) followed with an RBI single to right scoring Couillard.  Freshman outfielder Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) followed with an RBI sacrifice fly giving the Rams an insurance run.

The Rams return to action tomorrow with a pair of games against Bowdoin College.
