Baseball Third Seed in 2012 MASCAC Baseball Championship

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team has qualified for the 2012 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Championship as the third seed.  The Rams will travel to second seed Westfield State University on Thursday afternoon for a 3 p.m. contest.      

The Bridgewater State University Bears have earned the top seed and will host fourth seed Salem State in the other first round game on Thursday afternoon. The tournament continues on Saturday morning at Bridgewater State in a double elimination format beginning at 10 a.m., while the championship round set for Sunday afternoon.  The 2012 MASCAC baseball champion receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships.

The Rams are making their second tournament appearance in three seasons after recording a school record 25 victories (10 in conference play) under fifth year head coach Brian Blumsack.  The team is led offensively by junior outfielder Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.) who is batting .381 with 11 doubles and 30 RBI.  Senior designated hitter Pedro Acevedo (Fall River, Mass.) follows at .348 with 13 doubles and 31 RBI, while sophomore Matt DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) sports a 6-2 mark on the mound with a 2.53 ERA.  DiCato has struck out 44 batters in 46 1/3 innings this spring.  Also having a strong spring on the mound for the Rams is freshman Ryan Bowen (Hudson, Mass.) who has a 4-1 record with a 3.27 ERA.
