Offense Powers Baseball Past Eastern Nazarene 15-1

Quincy, Mass – Senior Chris Cole (Lynn, Mass.) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored as the Framingham State University baseball team picked up a 15-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene College this afternoon in non-conference action.

Junior Felipe Barahona (Lynn, Mass.) recorded the win for FSU, while sophomore Matt Jayne (Quincy, Mass.) took the loss for ENC.

Framingham posted six runs in both the fourth and seventh innings, along with one in the fifth and two in the eighth to take a 15-0 lead in the contest.

Eastern Nazarene broke the Rams' shutout in the ninth when senior Johan Villalona (Bronx, N.Y.) knocked an RBI single to score classmate Steve Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.), who had reached base on a single of his own to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning.

Doyle and Villalona were two of five Lions to collect hits on the day. Sophomore Max Pugh (San Diego, Calif.), senior Danny Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) and freshman Rocco Martinelli (Panama City, Panama) rounded out the group.

The Rams garnered 16 hits and walked nine times in the contest. Junior Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.), senior Pedro Acevedo (Fall River, Mass.), sophomore Matt Roberge (Lowell, Mass.), Cole (Lynn, Mass.) and freshman Cam Couillard (North Andover, Mass.) tallied two hits apiece for FSU.

Cole hit an inside the park homerun in the top of the seventh for the Rams. Framingham's second homerun of the day came from freshman Mark Mainini (Hull, Mass.) during a pinch hit at-bat in the eighth. Mainini blasted a deep shot to center to pick up two RBI's for his squad.

With the win, the Rams improve to 15-10 on the season. Eastern Nazarene falls to 4-21 in its 2012 campaign.

Framingham State returns to action on Saturday when they resume MASCAC action hosting Westfield State at 1 p.m.

The Lions will play four games in the next two days. The first doubleheader is set for Friday against Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Curry College beginning at 2:00pm and Saturday's DH will feature ENC and Salve Regina University.
