Baseball Closes Southern Swing with Sweep of Daniel Webster

Winter Haven, Fla. – The Framingham State University baseball team closed their spring trip at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a pair of victories over Daniel Webster College this afternoon.  The Rams defeated the Eagles 13-3 in the opener and took game two by a score of 7-3.

With the two victories, the Rams even their record at 5-5 on the year and they begin play up north on Tuesday at Babson College.

In game one, the Rams blew open a close game with six runs in the fourth inning and five in the sixth to take control of the game.  In the fourth, sophomore Tony Iafolla (Medfield, Mass.) and classmate Matt Roberge (Lowell, Mass.) delivered RBI hits, while senior Chris Blydell (Lynn, Mass.) plated a run with a sacrifice fly and freshman John Gill (Hudson, Mass.) drove home another on an RBI ground out.

In the sixth inning, Blydell and junior Justin Forman (Watertown, Mass.) each delivered two RBI doubles to drive in four of the five runs in the frame.

Sophomore Brendan Busa (Framingham, Mass.) earned the victory going five innings allowing two earned runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.  Junior Chris DiCecca (Winchester, Mass.) worked two innings of relief surrendering one unearned run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Iafolla led the Rams 15 hit attack as he went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, while Roberge went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.  Blydell finished the game 1-of-3 at the plate with three RBI, while Forman and freshman Cam Couillard (North Andover, Mass.) each picked up a pair of hits and a pair of RBI.

The Rams defeated the Eagles in game two by a score of 7-3 with Iafolla once again leading the Rams at the plate as he belted his second homer of the season.
