Baseball Defeated 12-2 by Rhode Island College

Framingham, Mass. – Junior Rob Rushton (Freetown, Mass.) allowed one earned run in eight innings and the Rhode Island College offense belted out 19 hits as the Anchormen defeated Framingham State University 12-2 today in non-conference baseball action at Framingham's Bowditch Field.

With the win the Anchormen improve to 14-16 on the season, while the Rams fall to 15-18.

Rushton picked up his third victory of the season scattering six hits through eight innings of work with four strikeouts and three walks.  He worked out jams in the first two innings allowing only the single run and surrendered only two hits in his final six innings of work.

The Anchormen offense did the rest as they took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  Junior Kyle Dumont (Pawtucket, RI) singled and came around to score on senior Gary Levesque's (East Providence, RI) double to left center.

Joan Mustafa (Providence, RI) and Kyle Allaire (Uxbridge, Mass.) drove in runs with RBI singles and Allaire scored on a pass ball as RIC capitalized on two Framingham errors with three unearned runs to extend their lead to 4-0 in the second.

In the bottom of the inning the Rams got a run back as senior Joe Sheehan (Burlington, Mass.) led off with a double and scored two batters later when Pedro Acevedo (New Britain, Conn.) grounded into a double play.  Sophomore Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.) singled to advance Sheehan to third.

RIC added two more in the top of the third on a two run homerun to center that just barely left the park off the bat of senior Ronnie Bracchi.  Levesque extended the Anchormen's lead to 9-1 in the top of fourth with a three run homer to center, his fifth of the season.

The Anchormen added three more in the top of the seventh on RBI singles from Allaire and Kevin Carey (Wakefield, RI) to push their advantage to 12-1.  The Rams were able to add a run in the bottom of the ninth off RIC relief pitcher Eric Blanchard (Warwick, RI) as freshman Billy Rundlett (Hudson, Mass.) picked up his first RBI with a single to right center that drove in junior Chris Cole (Lynn, Mass.), who had singled to lead off the inning.

Allaire went 3-for-5 in the game with three RBI, while Levesque went 2-for-4 with two extra base hits and four RBI.  Mustafa and Dumont picked up three hits apiece in the game, while Carey, Bracchi and Dan Hopkins (Cranston, RI) picked up two each.

Sheehan finished the game 1-for-3 for the Rams with a double and a run scored, while junior Chris Blydell (Lynn, Mass.) was 1-for-4 with a triple.

The Rams return to action on Friday at Curry at 3:30 p.m., while the Anchormen host Babson tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
