DiCato and Magazine Combine for Shutout as Baseball Defeats Lasell 2-0

Waltham, Mass. – Freshman Matthew DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) and senior Matthew Magazine (Marlborough, Mass.) combined for the shutout as the Framingham State University baseball team spoiled the Lasell College baseball home opener defeating the Lasers, 2-0, on Tuesday night at Stein Diamond.

In seven innings of work, DiCato secured his third win of the season improving his season record to 3-0 as he surrendered just five hits in the shutout victory.  DiCato struck out four batters before Magazine relieved him in the eighth and struck out three batters in two frames to earn his first save of the season.

Framingham State senior Joe Sheehan (Burlington, Mass.) scored the game-winning run in the third, plated by Matt Roberge (Lowell, MA) who laced a double into right center field.  Sheehan had walked to reach base and was advanced to scoring position on a Danny Tomasz (Newburyport, Mass.) fielder's choice.

The 1-0 edge held through to the ninth inning when Framingham tacked on an insurance run with two outs as pinch runner Chris Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) scored off a Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.) RBI line drive single to right field.

Roberge went 3-for-5 in the game with an RBI and a double while Pedro Acevedo (New Britain, Conn.) and Corey Ketterer (Plymouth, Mass.) each picked up a pair of hits.

Lasell's Conor Cavanagh (Quincy, Mass.) had three hits in four at-bats while Mike Mahoney (Rockland, Mass.), Andrew Pompeo (Hingham, Mass.), and Billy Uberti (Newton, Mass.) produced one hit each in the loss.

Joshua Sullivan (Rockland, Mass.) tossed 8.2 innings for the Lasers, sitting down eight Rams on strikes, while surrendering two runs on nine hits, while Matthew Pitts (Stoneham, Mass.) recorded the final out of the ninth inning for Lasell.

Framingham (5-6) will travel to Johnson & Wales University on Thursday, March 24th for  a 3:30 p.m. game against the Wildcats.  Lasell's (7-5) next contest is on the same date against Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m. on Stein Diamond.
