Baseball Takes Two from St. Joseph’s (ME) at RussMatt Central Florida Invitational

Winter Haven, Fla. – The Framingham State University baseball team closed their spring break trip at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with two wins over St. Joseph's College (ME) winning game one by a score of 6-5 and taking game two 13-4.  With the two victories the Rams return north with a record of 4-6. 

Tied at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning of game one, the Rams surrendered the go ahead run on an error in the infield giving the Monks a 5-4 lead.

Freshman Matt Roberge (Lowell, Mass.) led off the bottom of the inning with a single and advance to second when outfielder Corey Ketterer (Plymouth, Mass.) was hit by a pitch.  Senior Sean Callahan (Watertown, Mass.) laid down a sacrifice setting the Rams up with runners on second and third and one out.  Senior Danny Chaisson (Watertown, Mass.) followed with an RBI single down the third base line that plated the winning run.

Freshman pitcher Matthew DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) picked up his second win of the week as he came on in relief in the top of the seventh.

Senior Tommy Lindberg (Stratford, Conn.) tossed 5.2 innings in game two surrendering four runs, two earned, on 10 hits to improve his season record to 2-0.  Tony Iafolla (Medfield, Mass.) closed the game on the mound tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Junior Chris Blydell (Lynn, Mass.) went 3-for-5 in the game as the Rams offense exploded for 13 runs on 13 hits including eight runs in the third inning to blow the game open.  Callahan chipped in three RBI in the game on a bases clearing double, while Joe Sheehan (Burlington, Mass.) and Danny Tomasz (Newburyport, Mass.) each drove in a pair of runs.

The Rams return to action on Monday afternoon at Babson at 3:30 p.m.
