Baseball Drops Two to Bowdoin, 9-1 and 11-8

Winter Haven, Fla.   – The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated twice today at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational by Bowdoin College.  The Rams were defeated in the opening game 9-1 and lost the second 11-8. 

In game one, the Rams (2-4) starter Joe Sheehan (Burlington, Mass.) went seven innings allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts.

With the score tied 1-1 in the 10th inning, Bowdoin exploded for eight runs in the top of the frame including four runs on four hits off of sophomore relief pitcher Justin Forman (Watertown, Mass.), who was tagged with the loss.

In game two, freshman Tom Simas (Cambridge, Mass.) picked up the loss in his first start going 1.1 innings allowing five runs on three hits with two walks.

The Rams scored seven runs over the final four innings to close the gap, but it was not enough as the Rams pitching staff surrendered 11 runs on 11 hits and eight walks in the game.

Freshman Matt Roberge (Lowell, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI, while sophomore Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.) also picked up a pair of hits (2-for-4) a run scored and an RBI.  Junior Pedro Acevedo (New Britain, Conn.)  drove in two runs with an RBI double and Danny Tomasz (Newburyport, Mass.) picked up a hit and three RBI.

The Rams return to action on Thursday with a doubleheader against Endicott College beginning at 9:30 a.m.
