Baseball Downs Anna Maria in Ten Innings

Paxton, MA - Sophomore Steven Tramontozzi (Watertown, MA) hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Framingham State College baseball team to a 10-8 extra-inning victory over Anna Maria College at Alumni Field on Thursday afternoon. The win improves the Rams record to 8-21 on the year, while the AMCATS fall to 12-23-1 overall.

Tramontozzi led the Rams offensive attack, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and four runs scored, including his game-winning home run. Freshman Joe Sheehan (Burlington, MA.) also had an excellent day at the plate, driving in a team-high four runs while collecting two hits, including a three-run homer in the first inning. Sophomores Jason Hutchinson (Kingston, MA.) and Sean Callahan-Montague (Watertown, MA.) each chipped in with two hits apiece in the win. On the mound, sophomore Matthew Magazine (Marlboro, MA) earned the victory, striking out three batters while surrendering one run over 1.2 innings of work.

Sophomore Jeff Kodys (Holden, MA) led the way for the AMCATS, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Fellow sophomore Alex Roycewicz (Oxford, MA) also pounded out three hits, while shortstop Andy Fallon (Worcester, MA) and second baseman Brendon Tivnan (Worcester, MA) each had two hits in the loss. Junior Michael Allard was impressive out of the pen, tossing five full innings of relief while allowing just one run.

The Rams jumped on top in the first when Sheehan smacked a three-run shot to right-center field scoring junior Ryan McCarthy (Shrewsbury, MA) and Tramontozzi.

The AMCATS battled back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, getting an RBI double by Scafidi and a run scoring single through the right side by Kodys.

AMC tied the game an inning later on a base hit to left-center field by Fallon scoring junior Jeff Lander (Gloucester, MA).

The Rams regained the lead in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs on just two hits. Sophomore J.J. Sorensen (Westerly, RI) delivered the big blow with a two-run double down the left field line.

The AMCATS clawed back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, and after the Rams added a run in the top of the sixth, AMC tied the game at 7-7 with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Doyle got the sixth-inning scoring started with a solo shot to right-center field, while Scafidi eventually tied the game with a clutch two-out RBI single through the right side scoring Fallon.

The game remained knotted at 7-all until the 10th. After a pair of walks put two on with two outs, Tramontozzi came through with a three-run homer, giving FSC a 10-7 advantage.

The AMCATS did their best to forge a comeback in the bottom half of the inning, but after allowing one run and putting the tying runs on base, relief pitcher Matthew Magazine struck out the final batter on a high fastball to solidify the 10-8 victory for Framingham State.

The Rams will take the field again on Saturday, traveling to face Fitchburg State in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday, facing Nichols College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader on the road starting at 2 p.m.
