18 Rams Named to Winter 2012-13 MASCAC All-Academic Team

Buzzards Bay, Mass. — A total of 341 student-athletes, including 18 from Framingham State University, have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s Winter 2012-13 All-Academic Team as announced earlier today by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Ice hockey leads the way with nine student-athletes honored, while men’s basketball follows with five and women’s basketball placed four on the 2012-13 MASCAC Winter All-Academic team.

Honorees from the ice hockey squad include seniors Peter Baldwin (Business Administration) and Ben Pacific (Nutrition), juniors Herbert Kyles (Business Administration), Jay Nicholls (Business Administration) and Ken Tanaka (Business Administration), sophomore Dylan Cosford (Criminology), and freshmen John Buckley (Business Administration), Rich Hill (Biology) and Melvin Nichols (Business Administration).

Those honored from the men’s basketball team include seniors Rico DePaolis (Sociology) and Tyrone Figueroa (Accounting), sophomore Patrick Cuff (Undeclared) and freshmen Joe McCabe (Business Administration) and Tim McCarthy (Undeclared).

Seniors Kia Minor (Sociology) and Madeleine Park (Communication Arts), junior Kristen Hoffman (Business Administration) and sophomore Samantha Irvine (Business Administration) were honored from the women’s basketball team.

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the nine MASCAC institutions during the course of Winter 2012-13 athletic season and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the Fall 2012 semester are eligible for selection to the Winter All-Academic Team.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom.  MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey and football, while Western Connecticut State University will join the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
