14 Rams Named to Winter 2009-10 MASCAC All-Academic Team

Buzzards Bay, Mass. — Nearly 300 student-athletes, including 14 student-athletes from Framingham State College, have been honored by the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s Winter 2009-10 All-Academic Team as announced by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann this morning.

Ice hockey had nine student-athletes honored, while women’s basketball placed five on the All-Academic team.

Honorees from the 2009-10 ice hockey team include seniors Trevor Johnson (Business Administration), Andy Joyce (Business Administration), Matthew Lally (Communications), and Josh Williams (Business Administration), junior John Sheehan (Business Administration) and sophomores Jon Vaillancourt (History) and Aran Ward (Undeclared).  Freshmen Kenneth Kocsan (Business & IT) and Anthony Woodard (Business Administration) were honored in their first season with the Rams.

Women’s basketball junior Jillian Jones (Education), sophomores Anna Channing (Elementary Education) and Emily Clark (Biology) qualified for the All-Academic Team along with freshmen Megan Gangell (Undeclared) and Michelle Hagerty (Elementary Education).

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the nine MASCAC institutions during the course of the recently completed winter sports season and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the most recent academic semester are eligible for selection to the Winter All-Academic Team.

In its 39th year of existence, the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions: Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Framingham State College, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State College, Westfield State College and Worcester State College. Two other NCAA Division III member schools, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
