32 Rams Named to Spring 2013 MASCAC All-Academic Team

Westfield, Mass. — A total of 670 student-athletes, including 32 from Framingham State University, have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s Spring 2013 All-Academic Team as announced earlier today by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Softball leads the way with eight student-athletes honored, while ice hockey, women’s basketball and women’s lacrosse follow with six honorees apiece with men’s basketball and baseball each placing three on the 2013 MASCAC Spring All-Academic team.

Honorees from the softball team include senior Taylor Ezold (Business Administration), juniors Molly McKinnon (Communication Arts) and Andrea Smith (Mathematics), sophomores Kelly Naegelin (English) and Shelby Phillips (Political Science) and freshmen Jess Anthony (Undeclared), Kourtney Kacian (Undeclared) and Emily Kattau (Psychology).

Honorees from the ice hockey squad include senior Peter Baldwin (Business Administration), juniors Herbert Kyles (Business Administration) and Jay Nicholls (Business Administration), sophomore Dylan Cosford (Criminology), and freshmen John Buckley (Business Administration) and Melvin Nichols (Business Administration).

Seniors Kia Minor (Sociology) and Madeleine Park (Communication Arts), junior Kristen Hoffman (Business Administration) and sophomores Katelyn Iafolla (Undeclared), Samantha Irvine (Business Administration) and Kayla Murkison (Communication Arts) were honored from the women’s basketball team.

The women’s lacrosse team placed seniors Heather Masse (Business Administration), Courtney Robinson (Communication Arts), Jen Sheridan (Fashion Design & Retailing) and Chelsea Temple (Food & Nutrition) and juniors Rebecca Rixon (English) and Kaity Rossi (Modern Languages) on the Spring All-Academic Team.

Those honored from the men’s basketball team include senior Tyrone Figueroa (Accounting), sophomore Patrick Cuff (Undeclared) and freshman Tim McCarthy (Undeclared), while the honorees from the baseball team are junior Matt DiCato (Computer Science), sophomore John Gill (Business Administration) and freshman Dillon Corliss (Food Science).

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the eight MASCAC institutions during the course of the recently completed Spring 2013 academic semester and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average are eligible for selection to the Spring All-Academic Team.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom.  MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey and football, while Western Connecticut State University will join the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
