Prior to taking over as the interim head cross country coach, Johnson had been an assistant with the FSU men's and women's cross country programs since 2017. Johnson has also been an assistant coach with the outdoor women's track and field program working primarily with the middle distance runners, long distance runners and the throwing events.
In his first season overseeing the cross country programs the Rams had two runners finish all-conference including one student-athlete receiving MASCAC Rookie of the Year honors.
On the outdoor track & field side, Johnson’s Rams had a strong showing with an all-conference honor, and first place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.
