Baseball and Softball Earn Top Seeds in this Week's MASCAC Tournaments

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball and softball teams have earned the top seeds for their respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournaments that will take place later this week. 

Baseball finished the regular season 15-6 in MASCAC action tied atop the league standings with Bridgewater State. By virtue of the league's tiebreaker policy and the Rams two head-to-head victories in April against the Bears, the Rams earned the top seed and the Bears the number two seed. As the top two seeds, the Rams and the Bears earn first round byes and will host games on Thursday. 

Fourth seed Worcester State will face fifth seed Mass. Maritime in Framingham on Thursday at 11 a.m. The winner of that game will advance to face the Rams at Bowditch Field at 3 p.m.  

Sixth seed Fitchburg State will face third seed Westfield State in the other opening round matchup which will be played in Bridgewater Thursday at 11 a.m. The winner of that game will face the Bears on Thursday afternoon. 

The double elimination portion of the tournament will be played in Framingham at Bowditch Field on Friday, Saturday and if necessary Sunday. The winner of the MASCAC Baseball Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. 

The softball team won the MASCAC Regular Season Title and earned the top seed in the MASCAC Tournament after finishing the regular season 29-11 overall and 13-1 in the league. The Rams will host a quarterfinal on Friday, the semifinals and finals on Saturday and Sunday. 

Fifth seed Fitchburg State faces fourth seed Westfield State on Wednesday in a first round game with the winner advancing to face the Rams in Framingham on Friday at 4 p.m. Sixth seed Mass. Maritime travels to third seed Worcester State in the other opening round game with the winner advancing to face second seed Bridgewater State on Friday in Bridgewater. 

The remainder of the double elimination portion of the tournament will be played in Framingham at Maple Street Field on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The winner of the MASCAC Softball Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
