Women’s Soccer Shutout at Worcester

Worcester, Mass.- The Worcester State University women's soccer team stayed unbeaten in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Framingham State University at Coughlin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Worcester junior Ali Maldonado (Rutland, Mass.) opened the scoring for Worcester State in just the 12th minute. Maldonado cut across the top of the 18-yard box from left to right, firing a shot across her body and into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. Tara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.) notched an assist on the goal. 
  • Freshman Haley Mignon (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored in the 28th minute to extend Worcester's lead to 2-0, a score the Lancers would carry into the half.
  • LeBlanc added a goal of her own just under four minutes into the second half as she chipped one past the keeper on a breakaway to put Worcester State ahead 3-0.
  • Junior Ashley Spellman (Lancaster, Mass.) got the win in net for Worcester State with a pair of saves to earn the shutout. Framingham State keeper Madison Brown (Attleboro, Mass.) made 10 saves in the losing effort.

  • The Lancers will be back in action for a non-conference battle with Western Connecticut State on Tuesday evening. Framingham returns to action on Wednesday with a road trip to Keene State.
