Westfield Blanks Women’s Soccer in MASCAC Opener

Framingham, Mass. – The Westfield State Owls women's soccer team defeated Framingham State by a score of 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field in the conference opener for both squads.

 THE BASICS:                    

- Score:  Westfield State 2, Framingham State 0

- Records:  Westfield State (2-2-1, 1-0 MASCAC), Framingham State (0-4, 0-1 MASCAC)

Location: Maple Street Field– Framingham, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Owls scored the lone goal of the first half when Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) scored off a pass from Ashley Levya (Walpole, Mass.).
  • Westfield added to their lead in the 71st minute when Levya beat the Rams keeper with an assist from Bella Eduardo (Springfield, Mass.).
  • The Rams best chance to score came midway in the 1st half when an Owls foul seemed to give the Rams a 2-on-1 break but the play was stopped. The Rams ensuing shot from the free kick went wide.
  • The Rams also had a great chance in the closing minutes when Olivia Mihalek's (Northborough, Mass.) shot hit the cross bar.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.) made three stops in the shutout for the Owls.
  • Senior Jennifer Stevens (Hopkinton, Mass.) made seven saves in net for the Rams.
  • The Owls out shot the Rams 15-to-8 in the contest including a 6-to-2 clip in the first half.
  • The Owls were awarded seven corners to the Rams five.

UP NEXT:

  • The Rams host Keene State Monday at 7:30 pm in a makeup game from Sept. 12.
  • The Owls travel to Keene State on Wednesday for a 6:30 pm kickoff.
