Becker Outlasts Women’s Soccer in Double Overtime

Framingham, Mass. – Becker sophomore Kyra Teixeira (Old Lyme, Conn.) scored the game-winner with just 47 seconds to play in the second overtime to lead the Hawks to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Framingham State Thursday afternoon at Maple Street Field. With the win the Hawks improve to 10-7 while the Rams slide to 4-9-1 on the year.

The Hawks scored the only goal of the first half in the 13th minute of play even though the Rams controlled the pace of play for most of the period. The Hawks tally was registered by Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass.) on a give-and-go play with Autum Audet (Granville, Mass.).

The Rams finally broke through for the equalizer in the 77th minute when after a Hawks foul Hannah Kane (North Attleboro, Mass.) sent in a long strike the bounced twice untouched into the box and chipped in by Shelly Nardi (Williamsburg, Mass.). Neither team could find another opportunity to score in the frame even though the Rams finished regulation leading in shots 19-to-6.

The Hawks had the best opportunity in the first overtime period when a Becker player intercepted a Rams pass and created a breakaway. The attacker slowed up near the box and was caught from behind by the Rams defender. The Becker player tapped out a one-time pass opportunity, but the Rams keeper saved the resulting shot.

The Rams had a great look in the 108th minute when their free kick from about 32 yards curled just outside the right post. The Hawks broke the scoreless tie with just 47 seconds to go when Lindsey Keith's (Sutton, Mass.) cross was headed in by Teixeira.

Jennifer Stevens (Hopkinton, Mass.) turned away five shots in net for the Rams. Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.) made 11 stops in net for Becker.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, September 21st when they travel to Worcester State for a MASCAC matchup. The Hawks will travel to Regis on the same day.
