Bridgewater Defeats Women’s Soccer in MASCAC Action

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State women's soccer team fell to Bridgewater State by a score of 5-0 in MASCAC action Saturday morning at Maple Street Field. With the win the Bears improve to 4-4 and 2-0 in MASCAC play. The Rams are now 2-5 and 0-2 in league play.

The Bears got on the board in the 22nd minute when Alana Vincent (Taunton, Mass.) gathered a loose ball and sent it into the open side of the net.

Later in the period Bear goalie Lauren DeSousa (Taunton, Mass.) sent a long punt that was gathered after a bounce by Amelia Burke (Plymouth, Mass.) and chipped over the crashing goalie.

The Bears added a few insurance goals in the second half. In the 53rd minute Courteny Pepin (Uxbridge, Mass.) scored with an assist from Kaitlyn Bongarzone (Mansfield, Mass.). Then in the 69th minute Vincent struck again with an assist from Emma Sanders (Seekonk, Mass.). In the 75th minute Nicole Simas (Dartmouth, Mass.) tapped in a corner kick from Burke.

The Rams best chance to score was in the 71st minute when Hannah Kane's (North Attleboro, Mass.) shot was cleared out by a Bears defender after the goalie crashed.   

The Bears outshot the Rams 32-to-10 and took 4 corners to the Rams 2.

DeSousa made four saves in net for the Bears in the shutout win. Kirsten Hansen (Framingham, Mass.) made 13 stops for the Rams.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, September 27th when they host Roger Williams. The Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, September 28th.
