Women's Lacrosse Outlasts Chapman 13-12

Orange, Calif.   – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team outlasted Chapman 13-12 in a tightly fought contest that saw neither team lead by more than two goals this evening in non-conference action at Wilson Field.

THE BASICS:

- Records: Framingham State (5-1), Chapman (3-5)

Location:  Memorial Stadium – Whittier, Calif.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Sophomore Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) paced the Rams offense with six goals and an assist, while sophomore Morgan Begley added two goals and a helper.
  • Junior Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) added a goal and two assists, while classmate Perin Genaway chipped in with two assists.
  • Senior Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) earned the victory in net making nine stops.
  • After falling behind 1-0 just over five minutes into the game, the Rams used back-to-back goals from freshman Tara Palermo and junior Audrey Duhaime to take their first lead of the contest.
  • Chapman responded with two straight taking a 3-2 lead, but three straight from the Rams' Marino put them on top 5-3. 
  • Chapman closed the gap to 5-4 with just under six remaining in the first half before Begley found the back of the net for the 6-4 lead at the break.
  • In the second half, sophomore Hanna McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) pushed the lead to 7-4 with a goal in the opening minute of the frame, but three straight by Chapman knotted the game with just over 25 minutes on the clock.
  • Two straight from the Rams gave them back the lead that they would not relinquish.  Chapman pulled within one on several occasions, but could not tie the game again down the stretch.
  • Both teams took 26 shots in the contest, with Chapman holding a 16-10 edge in draw controls.
