Strong First Half Propels Women’s Lacrosse Past Smith College

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team received five goals and two assists from sophomore Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) as the Rams defeated Smith College 18-5 this evening in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Rams extend their win streak to eight games and improve to 9-1 on the year, while the Pioneers fall to 5-2.

Gamache paced the Rams potent offense that scored 12 goals in the opening stanza with her five tallies and added two assists and five draw controls. Sophomore Audrey Duhaime (Belchertown, Mass.) added three goals, two helpers, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Senior Kimmy Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) chipped in with two goals, an assist, two ground balls and three draw controls, while freshman Hanna McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) tallied three goals.

Freshman Ashley Gregory (Lynn, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals and a pair of assists, while Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.), Jennifer Buckley (Woburn, Mass.) and Morgan Begley (Milton, Mass.) tallied a single goal apiece.

The Pioneers were led by three goals, three ground balls, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers from senior Caroline Myran, while junior Chloe Harris added a pair of goals.

The Rams jumped out to a 6-0 lead just over 12 minutes into the first half. Foley tallied a pair of markers on the spurt, while Gamache added two.  Myran tallied an unassisted marker at 14:41 to get the visitors on the board, but the Rams closed the half with six straight including two more from Gamache to take control of the game.

The Rams outshot Smith 30-14 in the contest and held a 21-20 edge in ground balls.

Junior Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) earned her ninth victory in net allowing one goal with six saves, while Sarah Price was tagged with the loss and made 10 stops.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday when they host Bridgewater State for a MASCAC game at 10 a.m., while the Pioneers travel to Babson on Saturday at noon for a NEWMAC contest.
