O’Connor Paces Women’s Basketball to 8th Straight Win

Framingham, Mass.- Framingham State freshman Flannery O'Connor (Amesbury, Mass.) scored a team-high 27 points with ten boards, two steals and three blocks as the Rams surged to a 71-64 win over Worcester State Saturday afternoon. The victory is the Rams eight straight win as they remain undefeated in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Framingham State ran out to an early lead of nine points midway through the first quarter, but the Lancers quickly battled back to close the gap and trail by a margin of 19-15 after one. O'Connor led all players with eight points in the quarter.
  • Worcester State senior Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) put up 12 points in the second quarter to push the Lancers into a 34-33 lead at the half. Mosley had a game-high 16 points in the half, while O'Connor had 15 for the visitors.
  • Worcester State narrowly outscored the Rams 14-12 in the third quarter to take a 48-45 lead into the fourth. The Lancers couldn't keep the Rams down in the 4th as Rams senior Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) hit a trey to give the Rams their first lead of the quarter. A couple possessions later Gigi Lemay hit a layup and gave the Lancers the lead with just under five minutes to play but Velozo answered on the other end with a three to give the Rams a 61-59 lead.
  • The Lancers would tie the game at the line after a foul but two buckets by O'Connor and a putback by Katty Haidul (Wakefield, Mass.) put the Rams up six with two minutes to play. Mosely hit a trey with just over 60 seconds left but Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.) would sink a layup on the other end and the Rams would get a stop on the other end to put the game away.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • O'Connor led the Rams in points, rebounds steals and blocks while O'Day scored 16 with nine boards, four assists and two steals and Velozo added 10 with three helpers.
  • Mosley scored a game best 30 points to go along with seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists for the Lancers.

 UP NEXT:

Worcester State will return to the court on Wednesday evening, hosting Salem State University at Brissette Court for a 5:30 p.m. tip. Framingham will be back in action the same evening, traveling to MCLA.
