Velozo & O’Connor Sweep MASCAC Weekly Awards
Framingham, Mass.- Framingham State senior Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week and freshman Flannery O'Connor (Amesbury, Mass.) has been named MASCAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending February 2nd.
Velozo picks up her 3rd MASCAC Player of the Week award after averaging 24 points, 6.5 rebounds, four assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 51.6 % (16-31) from the floor in a 2-0 week for the Rams. She scored 18 points, including her 1,000th career point while adding eight rebounds, four assists and a block in the 77-51 win over Fitchburg State. Velozo then tallied 30 points on 5-of-9 from beyond the arc with five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the 100-74 win over Westfield State to remain undefeated in league play.
O'Connor, who picks up her sixth rookie of the week honor this season, averaged 10.5 points, nine rebounds and a block in a 2-0 week for the Rams. She scored 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field with 11 boards and two blocks in the 100-74 win over Westfield State to remain undefeated in MASCAC action. She also added eight points and seven rebounds in the 77-51 win over Fitchburg State.
