Bio

Larry Miller enters his tenth year as Head Softball Coach and Assistant Sports Information Director at Framingham State for the 2024 season.

Since taking the helm prior to the 2015 season, Miller has turned the program into an annual contender in the MASCAC. Miller has led the Rams to five Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament Championships, four MASCAC Regular Season Titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances including the programs first ever victories in the NCAA Tournament and first ever national ranking. Since 2017 the Rams have posted an impressive 99-18 record against MASCAC opponents.

The 2023 Rams set numerous program records on their way to their fifth MASCAC Title and NCAA Apperance in six seasons. The 2023 Rams posted a record setting 33 wins capturing the MASCAC Regular Season Title with a 13-1 conference mark before slugging their way through the MASCAC Tournament with three straight five inning run-rule victories to earn their spot in the NCAA Tournament. After falling to nationally top-ranked Salisbury, the Rams posted a 4-0 win over UMass Dartmouth to capture their third NCAA Tournament victory in program history. The 2023 season saw numerous team and individual records broken including wins, batting average, RBIs, runs scored, hits, on base percentage and homeruns.

The 2022 season culminated in another MASCAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Regional Appearance for the Rams. After earning the 4th seed in the MASCAC Tournament, the Rams charged through the loser’s bracket in dramatic fashion erasing two 7th inning deficits in elimination games to get to the title series and defeating the top seed twice on the final day to capture their fourth title in five seasons.

After losing their 2020 season to the COVID-19 outbreak the Rams didn't skip a beat in 2021 going 29-8 and a perfect 10-0 in MASCAC play earning their third MASCAC Regular Season Title in four seasons and earning the program’s first ranking in the NFCA Top 25.

The 2019 softball team earned a share of the MASCAC Regular Season Championship after posting a 12-2 record in league play and their third consecutive MASCAC Tournament Championship. After being knocked into the loser's bracket in the conference tournament the Rams rallied to win three games on the final day to capture the program's third consecutive title and NCAA Tournament appearance. Miller earned his 100th career victory in a win over Bridgewater State on April 19th, 2019.

The 2018 Rams continued on their breakout 2017 season capturing the MASCAC Tournament Championship in dramatic fashion for the second straight season. The Rams finished 2018 with a 25-17 record and 10-4 mark in conference play.

The 2017 squad won a school record 31 games and were the MASCAC Regular Season Champions for the first time in program history. The Rams went on to win the 2017 MASCAC Tournament and qualify for the programs' second trip to the NCAA Div. III Tournament and earn the program's first win in NCAA postseason play. Miller was named the 2017 MASCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Rams to a 31-13 record and 12-2 mark in conference play. 

Miller joined the Rams prior to the 2015 seasons after spending the previous four years at SUNY Cortland in various roles within the Red Dragons athletic department. Miller served in the dual role as the Assistant to the Athletic Director and an assistant softball coach.  During his time as a member of the Red Dragons’ coaching staff, the softball program won two SUNYAC titles, qualified for three NCAA Tournament Appearances and made two trips to the NCAA Div. III World Series including a national runner-up finish in 2013. Miller was also a part of the 2013 NFCA Division III Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Miller served in several administrative roles at Cortland including as the Assistant to the Director where he was responsible for event management, technology and special projects. Prior to that position, Miller served a two-year stint as a graduate assistant at Cortland where he assisted with contest management and coordination of the event staff.  

Miller earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Sports Management from SUNY Cortland.

In addition to his duties at Framingham State, Miller is also a coach with the Polar Crush travel softball organization and Area Commissioner for USA Softball of MA. He resides in Northborough, Mass. with his wife Andrea, daughter Naomi and dog Rudy.

  • Guided the Rams to five MASCAC Championships, four MASCAC Regular Season Titles and five apperances in the NCAA Div. III Tournament since 2017.

  • Led Framingham State to its best season in program history in 2023 with a school record 33 wins capturing the MASCAC Regular Season Title before slugging their way through the MASCAC Tournament with three straight five inning run-rule victories. Captured the program's third NCAA Tournament victory with a 4-0 win over UMD at Regionals.
  • A break out 2017 season saw the Rams finish the season with an overall record of 31-13 and reached the NCAA Championship Tournament winning a game in NCAA postseason for the first time.
  • Was named MASCAC Softball Coach of the Year in 2017 after coaching the Rams to their first MASCAC Regular Season Title and 12-2 mark in conference play.
  • Has had student-athletes earn 39 All-Conference honors, seven NFCA All-Region honors and five student-athletes that have been named the Conference Player, Pitcher or Rookie of the Year.
  • Led the Framingham State softball program to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament five times over the last six seasons at the helm.
  • Guided the Rams to the program's first NCAA regional ranking in 2017 and first national ranking in the NFCA Top 25 in 2021.
  • The Rams have captured either the MASCAC Regular Season or Tournament Championship in every season from 2017-2023.
