Salisbury, Gunarathne and Pepin Earn MASCAC Softball Weekly Honors

Framingham, Mass. – The trio of senior outfielder Lauren Salisbury (Cranston, RI), senior pitcher Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) and freshman Laela Pepin (Acushnet, Mass.) have been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player, Pitcher and Rookie of the Week for the week ending May 5th.          

Salisbury earns her first player of the week honor after batting .563 (9-16) with three doubles, six runs scored and eight RBI as she was named Tournament MVP after helping the Rams secure their third straight MASCAC Tournament Title.  Salisbury went 5-for-7 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI in the championship game doubleheader sweep of Bridgewater State. Earlier in the week she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI in the 8-0 quarterfinal win over Worcester State and went 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI in the 4-2 semifinal win over Fitchburg State. 

Gunarathne made five appearances during the MASCAC tournament and went 4-1. She tossed a complete game six-inning shutout in the 8-0 win over Worcester State, allowing just five hits with three strikeouts. Gunarathne went 3-0 on the final day of the tournament, only giving up three runs and striking out five, including a complete game 4-2 win over Fitchburg State.

Pepin batted .438 (7-16) with two doubles, six RBI and two stolen bases plus a .563 slugging percentage to help the Rams to the MASCAC Tournament title. She went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in the 8-0 quarterfinal win over Worcester State. Pepin went 3-for-6 with a run scored and three RBI in the championship game doubleheader sweep of Bridgewater State.
