Falcons Drop Ice Hockey on Senior Night

Framingham, Mass.- The Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated Framingham State by a score of 7-1 on senior night at Loring Arena. Prior to the contest the Rams honored the three seniors playing in their final home game: Nick McNally (Grafton, Mass.), Brenden Williams (Richmond, VA) and Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.).

THE BASICS:

- Score:  Fitchburg State 7, Framingham State 1

- Records:  Fitchburg State (12-7-3, 9-3-3 MASCAC), Framingham State (3-18-2, 2-13-1 MASCAC)

- Location: Loring Arena – Framingham, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Falcons got on the board in the third minute when Jordin Holmes wristed in a pass from Wyatt Wilmshurst to take the early lead. Wilmshurst cleaned up a rebound a few moments later to push the Falcons lead to 2-0.
  • The Rams cut into the lead at the midway point of the 1st when Jack Pierson poked one in off an assist from Jake Garman.
  • The Falcons countered with two power play goals, both by Brian Glover, later in the 1st period to push their lead to 4-1 at the first intermission.
  • The Falcons added two 2nd period goals by Trent Shanley and Rece Bergeman to push their second period lead to 6-1. Anthony Ceolin added to the Faclons advantage in the 7th minute of the 3rd.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Brian McGrath made 26 stops in net for the Falcons while Harney turned away 29 shots and Matt Cucinotta made 11 saves in net for the Rams.
  • The Falcons outshot the Rams by a 47-to-27 margin and were 2-for-6 on the powerplay compared to the Rams 0-for-3.

The Rams will travel to Salem State on Thursday for a 7pm MASCAC tilt with the Vikings. The Falcons will host the Owl of Westfield State on the same date and time.
