Late Run Propels Worcester State Past Men’s Basketball

Worcester, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team trailed by three midway through the second half, but surrendered a run to Worcester State allowing the Lancers to defeated the Rams 85-70 this afternoon by in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the John P. Brissette Court.

THE BASICS:

- Records: Framingham State (1-20, 0-8 MASCAC), Worcester State (10-11, 6-2 MASCAC)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Rams were led by a team-high 16 points from junior Cameren McCloud-Thomas (Springfield, Mass.).  McCloud-Thomas connected on 6-of-13 from the floor and completed the double double with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
  • Senior Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) added 12 points and eight rebounds including five on the offensive glass.  Hampton connected on 6-of-12 from the floor in the game.
  • Sophomore Tajahn Joyner was the final Ram with double figures as he scored 10 and added six rebounds, three assists and a steal.  Classmate Jared Gordon-Anderson (Framingham, Mass.) added nine points for the Rams, while freshman John Kalton chipped in with eight, four rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.
  • The Lancers saw all five starters record double figures led by 22 points from Chris Cardoso.  Cardoso completed the double double with a team-high 10 rebounds.
  • Tyler Dion was right behind Cardoso with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists.  Corey Olivier chipped in with 17 points and eight boards.
  • Sam Dion recorded 13 points including 3-of-6 from behind the arc, while Erik Bjorn finished with a double double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Rams trailed 43-31 at the half and chipped away at the lead over the first half of the second stanza.  A layup by Hampton with 9:06 on the clock in the second cut the deficit to 61-58.
  • The Lancers used a 10-1 run over the next four minutes to establish a 71-59 lead.  The Rams cut the gap to eight on a free throw from McCloud-Thomas with 6:46 on the clock, but that was as close as they would get as Worcester pushed the lead back to double digits.
