Westfield State Defeats Men's Basketball 86-73

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team was defeated 86-73 this afternoon by Westfield State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Athletic Center.

THE BASICS:

- Score: Westfield State 86, Framingham State 73

- Records: Framingham State (1-19, 0-7 MASCAC), Westfield State (13-7, 5-2 MASCAC)

Location:  Athletic Center – Framingham, Mass.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Owls were paced by a game-best 24 points from senior Vawn Lord (West Springfield, Mass.). Lord connected on 9-of-14 from the floor and added eight rebounds and two steals.
  • Classmate Moody Bey (Springfield, Mass.) finished with 12 points on 3-of-5 from the floor, while fellow senior Jauch Green (Hartford, Conn.) added a double double effort of 10 points and 11 boards. 
  • Marcus Collins (Cambridge, Mass.) finished with nine points, five boards and four assists.
  • The Rams were paced by 18 points from senior Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.).  Hampton connected on 8-of-19 from the floor and added eight boards including four on the offensive glass.
  • Junior Cameren McCloud-Thomas (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds.   

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Leading 10-7, the Owls used a 12-2 run capped by a Lord three to open up a 22-9 lead with just over 12 minutes on the clock in the opening stanza.
  • The Rams closed the gap to nine on a Hampton jumper with 6:36 on the clock, but the Owls pushed the lead back to 15 before taking a 50-39 lead into the locker room at the half.
  • The Owls maintained the lead throughout the second half, leading by as many as 24 with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.
  • The Rams did not go away quietly cutting the deficit to 13 in the final minutes.

 

UP NEXT:                   

The Rams are back in action next Saturday afternoon when they travel to Worcester State for a MASCAC clash at 3 p.m., while the Owls host Worcester State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
