Men's Basketball Falls to Regis 88-70

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team was defeated at home tonight 88-70 by Regis College in non-conference action at the Athletic Center. 

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pride opened the game with a 13-0 run including eight points from senior Ademola Afonja (Staten Island, NY).  The Rams got on the board at the 15:55 mark on a basket from junior Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.).
  • The Pride extended the lead to 19-2 on a dunk from Afonja before Hampton scored again for the Rams. The Pride pushed the lead to as many as 22 midway through the first, but the Rams closed the gap to 43-25 at the half.
  • Afonja finished the first half with 11 points for the Pride, while senior Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.) paced the Rams with 10 in the opening half.
  • The Rams opened the second half with a 10-2 run cutting the Pride's lead to 45-35.  Freshman Jared Gordon-Anderson (Framingham, Mass.) connected on a three to start the spurt and classmate Emmanuel Valmir (Hyde Park, Mass.) added a layup and a three point play.
  • The Pride answered with a run of their own pushing the lead back to 18 with 14:50 left in the game. The Pride extended the lead to as many as 30 late in the second half before securing the 88-70 victory.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Payton finished the game with a game-best 25 points on 10 of 23 shooting from the field. He added five rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
  • Hampton finished the game with 10 points on five of nine from the field to go along with eight boards.  Senior Khaneil Bruce (Cambridge, Mass.) added nine points with eight boards and three steals.
  • Afonja paced the Pride with a team-best 21 points on eight of 14 from the floor. Sophomore Gibou Njie (Miramar, Fla.) added 14 points and five rebounds, while Dimitri Rosa (Tiverton, RI) added 12 points.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday, November 27th when they host Wheaton College at 7 p.m.  The Pride are back in action November 26th when they travel to Newbury College at 7 p.m.
