Field Hockey Tripped Up at Salem
Salem, Mass.- The Salem State University field hockey team defeated Framingham State by a score of 2-0 on Think Pink Day at Alumni Field on Saturday.
THE BASICS:
- Score: Salem State 2, Framingham State 0
- Records: Salem State (7-4, 3-3 LEC), Framingham State (2-8, 1-5 LEC)
- Location: Alumni Field – Salem, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Salem's Melanie Mason (Beverly, Mass.) scored a first quarter goal and that was all Salem State needed to secure its third win in four games
- With six minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Vikings took advantage of a corner opportunity. Mason took a shot from the right side of the field and knocked it in to put Salem State on top 1-0.
- In the second quarter, the Rams' Julia Tetreault (Sutton, Mass.) saw an opening and took a shot from a couple of yards away. However, goalie Kelli McCarthy (Foxborough, Mass.) saved the shot to protect the Vikings' slim lead.
- In the third quarter, Casie Curtin (Wrentham, Mass.) set up Couillard, who took a high shot, over the goalie Grace Pushor (Old Town, Maine), giving the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Salem State finished with four shots attempted with two on target. On the other side, Framingham State took five shots and four were on target.
- The Rams had eight corners but couldn't convert any of the opportunities into goals while the Vikings had three corners.
- McCarthy earned the win (7-4) with her first shutout of the season, saving three shots and allowing no goals. Pushor took the loss (3-8) finishing with two goals allowed and no saves.
