Strong Second Half Propels Cortland Past Football 57-19

Cortland, N.Y. - The Framingham State University football team suffered their first defeat of the season this after with a 57-19 loss to Cortland State in a non-conference tilt at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Rams got on the board first with just over two minutes remaining in the opening quarter on a six yard touchdown pass from junior Adam Wojenski (Stratford, Conn.) to senior Napoleon Miller (Dorchester, Mass.).
• Cortland tied the game at 7-7 in the opening minutes of the second on a five yard pass from Brett Segala to Alex Wasserman.
• The Rams took the lead back (13-7) with 5:24 remaining in the second on Wojenski's second touchdown pass of the game. This one was a six yard strike to sophomore Mikael Brown (Latham, NY).
• Cortland took the lead back in the final minute of the half on a three yard touchdown run by Segala.
• A one yard touchdown run by junior Rufus Rushins (Lynn, Mass.) with five minutes remaining the third put the Rams back on top, but a 95 yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Cole Burgess put the Red Dragons in the lead for good.
• Cortland pulled away with two more touchdowns in the third and found the end zone three times in the fourth including a 59 yard interception return for a score by D'monte Woody.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Wojenski finished the game 24-of-44 for 266 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
• Miller led the receivers with 11 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown, while Brown finished with four catches for 41 yards and a score.
• Segala finished the game with 204 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Tommy Heuer also threw a touchdown pass.
• Junior Joshua Smiley (Springfield, Mass.) led the defense with six tackles including five solo, while sophomore Anthony Behonick (Rutland, Mass.) also recorded five tackles and an interception.
• Framingham State amassed 302 yards of total offense in the game including 270 thru the air, but were held to just 32 net yards rushing. The Red Dragons racked up 331 yards of offense including 241 passing.
• The Red Dragons outscored the Rams 43-6 in the second half and forced the Rams to turn the ball over four times in the game.
• This is the fifth meeting between the Rams and the Red Dragons with the Rams defeating the Red Dragons for the first time in 2017 at Bowditch Field.
