Baseball Earns Third Seed in 2019 MASCAC Baseball Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball has earned the third seed in the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament.

The Rams finished the 2019 regular season with an overall record of 20-17 including a 12-9 mark in league play.

The third seed Rams will face sixth seed Worcester State University on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the NEBC in an opening round game.  The winner advances to the double elimination portion of the tournament and will immediately face second seed Fitchburg State on Wednesday at approximately 3 p.m. 

The Rams are led on the mound this season by senior Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) who has a 7-1 record with a 2.63 ERA in 75.2 innings of work. Hodgson has 71 strikeouts on the year and surpassed the 200 mark for his career earlier this season. 

The Rams are led offensively by senior infielder Joe Ambrosino (Bradeton, Fla.). Ambrosino is hitting .324 with 11 doubles, a triple, four homers and 34 RBI.  Classmates Kyle Lippert (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) follow behind at .314 and .308 respectively.

The tournament field is rounded out by fourth seed Salem State who faces fifth seed Bridgewater State in the other opening round game on Wednesday morning. The winner of that game advances to the double elimination portion of the tournament and immediately faces top seed Westfield State on Wednesday in Westfield.

The tournament continues on Thursday with the two winners meeting at the higher seed and the two losers meeting at higher seed in an elimination game.  The tournament will conclude over the weekend at Westfield State. The winner of the MASCAC baseball tournament receives the MASCAC's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
