Volleyball Advances to MASCAC Tournament with 3-2 Victory over Westfield State

Westfield, Mass. - The fourth seed Framingham State University volleyball team pulled out a thrilling 3-2 victory over top seed Westfield State University this evening in one semifinal of the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Tournament at the Woodward Center.  With the victory the Rams advanced to the Tournament Finals which will be played on Saturday at MCLA.

-Scores:  Framingham State 3, Westfield State 2 (23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-21, 15-13) 

-Records: #4 Framingham State (19-10), #1 Westfield State (10-18) 

- Location: Woodward Center Westfield, Mass.         

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams and the Owls traded the first four sets with the Owls winning the first and third and the Rams taking the second and fourth. 

  • In a fifth set that went back and forth, the Owls led 13-11 before kills from Anna Szymanski and Natalie Reynolds tied the match at 13-13. 

  • After a Westfield timeout, Szymanski delivered another kill putting the Rams up 14-13 and forced the Owls to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, a block from Szymanski and Reynolds sealed the victory for the Rams. 

  • Reynolds and Hailey Sanders paced the Rams on the attack in the match as each tallied 18 kills. Reynolds recorded her 18 kills on 37 attempts with just two errors for a .432 attack percentage, while Sanders connected on 18 of 39 swings for a .385 attack percentage. Sanders also added seven blocks in the match. 

  • Szymanski finished the match with 16 kills, five digs and three blocks for the Rams. 

  • Stella Bailey chipped in with 62 set assists and added a team-best 23 digs, while Carly Beaulieu finished the match with 20 defensive digs. 

  • Emma Dobbins chipped in with 10 kills in the match, while Mackenzie Heaney added 18 digs.  

 

UP NEXT: 

The fourth seeded Rams advance to the MASCAC Tournament Finals on Saturday at third seed MCLA. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
