Westfield Holds on for 3-1 MASCAC Victory Over Volleyball

Framingham, Mass. The Framingham State volleyball team was defeated by Westfield State by a score of 3-1 in MASCAC action Friday evening in Framingham.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:   Westfield State 3, Framingham State 1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23) 

- Records:Framingham State (12-6, 1-1 MASCAC), State (3-14, 2-0 MASCAC) 

- Location: Richard Logan Gymnasium Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The two teams played a back-and-forth first set before the Owls ran off a 8-0 run to end the first game with a statement. 

  • Another back-and-forth set saw the Owls pulled ahead 21-17 before the Rams rallied to tie the game at 22. A few points later Anna Szymanski's kill sealed the Rams a second set victory 25-23 

  • Tied at 14 in the third set the Rams rallied to take a 19-15 lead but the Owls battled back to tie the match back up at 20. After trading a couple points the Owls came away with the 25-22 win in the third.  

  • The Owls jumped out to an early fourth set lead but once again both sides battled back-and-forth late into the set. Westfield was able to finish off the set and the match 25-23.   

  • Sarah Bingham led the Owls with 14 kills while Bridgette McAndrews and and Lauren Carnes added 13 and 11 kills, respectively.  

  • Hailey Sanders led the charge for the Rams with 17 kills while Natalie Reynolds added 15 kills and Anna Szymanski chipped in 13. 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Mass. Maritime for another MASCAC matchup. The Owls will host Salem State on the same evening.
