Gordon Holds Off Volleyball for 3-1 Win

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University volleyball team was defeated at home tonight 3-1 by Gordon College non-conference action at the Athletic Center.

THE BASICS:

- Scores:   Gordon 3, Framingham State 1 (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 25-14)

- Records: Framingham State (16-11), Gordon (14-11)

Location:  Athletic Center – Framingham, Mass.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Fighting Scots were paced by 19 kills from Jacque Fitzgerald, while Jamie Tafoya added 12.
  • Amanda Snyder chipped in with a double double effort of 12 kills and 12 digs, while Marla Batson also recorded double digit kills with 10.
  • The Rams were led on the attack by sophomore Brandee Thomas (North Kingstown, RI) who recorded a team-best 18 kills to go along with nine digs and a block.
  • Freshman Hailey Sanders (Franklin, Mass.) added nine kills and three blocks while sophomore Payton Hodsdon (Somersworth, NH) added seven kills and four digs.
  • Sophomore Alyssa Cafarelli (Peoria, AZ) led a trio of Rams with double digit digs with 18 in the match.  Senior Deirdre Fay (Cornwall, NY) added 15 and four kills.
  • Junior Morgan Failla (Providence, RI) chipped in with 37 set assists and 10 digs.
  • The Fighting Scots received 19 kills from Jenny Curtiss, while Sophia Scola added nine.
  • The first set was back and forth with neither team leading by more than a couple.  The Rams led 22-20 after a kill from Thomas, but Gordon fought back tying the match at 23-23.  The Rams closed the set with back to back errors giving Gordon the victory in the opening frame.
  • The second set mirrored the first with the match tied on multiple occasions including 13-13.  Gordon would take a two point lead (18-16), but the Rams would rally and tied the match at 19 and took the lead 20-19 in a kill by Fay.  The Rams led 23-21 after a kills from Thomas, but Gordon would score the final four points of the set to go up 2-0.
  • In the third, the Rams led 6-4 early and pushed the lead as many as five before Gordon tied the set at 22-22.  The Rams would use a kill from Thomas and an ace from Failla to retake the lead for good and force the fourth set.
  • Gordon jumped out to the early lead, 5-0, in the fourth before the Rams tied the frame at 9-9.  Gordon used a 5-0 run to take the lead for good and seal the victory in the match.
