Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Rivier and UMass Dartmouth

Nashua, NH - The Framingham State University volleyball team battled for a 3-2 victory over UMass Dartmouth after being defeated 3-0 by host Rivier in a non-conference tri-match at Muldoon Gymnasium.

                        Match 2: Framingham State 3, UMass Dartmouth 0 (19-25, 25-12, 17-25, 25-23, 15-11)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Match 1:

In their first match of the day, the Rams were defeated by Rivier by scores of 25-17, 25-15 & 25-14

The Rams were paced by sophomore Brandee Thomas (North Kingstown, RI) with nine kills, while Brandey Rodriguez (Lawrence, Mass.) added six kills and three blocking assists.

Alyssa Cafarelli (Peoria, AZ) added nine digs and an assist while Morgan Failla (Providence, RI) added a team best 14 assists.

Match 2:

After dropping the first set, the Rams answered with a convincing 25-12 game two win to tie the match at one. The Corsairs answered winning the third set but the Rams countered winning a tight fourth set.

The Rams led in the fourth game 17-8 but the Corsairs whipped off a nine-point run two tie the match back at 17. After trading points back-and-forth to get to 23 all, an attack error by the Corsiars followed by a Deidre Fay (Cornwall, NY) kill sent the match into the decisive fifth set.  

The Rams jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fifth set highlighted by two Thomas kills and would not look back taking the set 15-11.

Thomas led all players with 17 kills and a blocking assist. Rodriguez added seven kills and a block and Payton Hodsdon (Somersworth, NH) added seven kills and two block assists. Cafarelli worked in 30 digs while Failla was credited with 29 assists.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they host Becker for a non-conference tilt at 6 p.m.
