Thomas Named Rookie of the Year as Volleyball Places Three on All-MASCAC Teams

Framingham, Mass. – Freshman outside hitter Brandee Thomas (North Kingstown, R.I.) has been selected the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Year and the Rams placed three on the 2018 All-MASCAC Teams in voting conducted by the league's coaches and announced by the conference office this morning. 

Thomas was a first team All-MASCAC selection along with senior setter Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.), while freshman defensive specialist Alyssa Cafarelli (Peoria, AZ) was recognized with selection to the second team.

Thomas, who was recognized as the MASCAC Rookie of the Week nine times during her freshman season, earns her first all-conference honors.  Thomas led the MASCAC in total kills (358), kills per set (3.25) and attacks (1046).  She compiled a .212 attack percentage on the year and also recorded 74 digs and 16 blocks.

Whalen earns back-to-back first team all-conference honors after leading the Rams with 894 set assists and 53 services aces with 303 digs. Whalen averaged just over eight assists per set played seeing action in 32 matches this season.  Whalen finished her career for the Rams with 2715 assists and 921 digs.

Cafarelli earns her first All-MASCAC nod after an outstanding rookie season.  Cafarelli ranked second in the MASCAC and led the Rams in total digs (424) and averaged 4.04 digs per set with 37 service aces and 68 assists.
