Volleyball Defeats Mass. Maritime 3-0 in MASCAC Action

Buzzards Bay, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Clean Harbors Center.  The Rams won the match by scores of 25-19, 25-8 and 25-7.

With the win, the Rams improve to 10-16 on the season and are now 4-2 in the league with one conference match remaining this season.  The Bucs fall to 3-20 after the defeat and are now 1-5 in the MASCAC.

The Rams were paced on the attack by the duo of freshmen Kelly Brinkman (Gardiner, NY) and Michaela Cronin (Hampden, Mass.).  Kelley led all players with 13 kills on 22 attempts with just two errors, while Cronin recorded 10 kills on 13 attacks and did not register an error.  Junior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) recorded 24 set assists, while senior Vicki Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomores Dierdre Fay (Cornwall, NY) and Alexandra Fish (Lincoln, RI) registered 11 digs apiece.

The Buccaneers received six kills and eight digs from Marie Harrison, while Kaylee Tolman added five kills, seven digs and an assist.  Meghan Sullivan registered four kills, while Tina Ruggeri added 11 digs to lead the Bucs defensive effort.

The Rams are back in action Saturday with a non-conference tri-match at St. Joseph's College (ME).
