Volleyball Falls Twice to Worcester State and Plymouth State

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Worcester State and Plymouth State on Saturday at the Athletic & Recreation Center.  The Lancers extended their winning streak to 12 with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-17) MASCAC win over Framingham State in the first game of the tri-match. Worcester State's junior outside hitter, Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) led the Lancers with a double-double of 13 kills and 14 digs.

After trading points in the beginning of the first set, Worcester State gained a three point lead on a kill from King and an Allie Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) service ace. Framingham State got within two twice more, until Worcester State went on a 14-4 run to close out the set at 25-13. The Lancers registered their highest team hitting percentage of .353 in the first set.

Worcester State took the first lead of the second set on a kill from Lauren Murphy (Taunton, Mass.). However, Framingham State came back and the Rams scored three consecutive points with Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) at the service. The Lancers knotted the score at 6-6 moments later following a kill from King and a Framingham State error. Following three more ties, Worcester State jumped ahead on kill from Emily Carens (Northborough, Mass.). The Lancers held the lead throughout the remainder of the set, slowly pushing away from the Rams for the 25-18 win.

The Lancers came out strong in the final set with Megan Leavens (Storrs, Conn) and Murphy at the service for a 6-2 lead. With a service ace from Framingham's Brenna Marquis (Coventry, Conn.), the Rams got within two moments later. Though, Worcester State once again pushed away and then went on a 5-1 run to advance the lead to eight and leave the Rams in the dust. 

 As a team, Worcester State held a .263 hitting percentage. Framingham State marked a negative attack percentage. The Lancers held a 40-21 kill advantage over the Rams.The Blue and Gold's attack was led by King who had 13 kills. Carens logged 11 kills while Murphy recorded eight kills with a team-high .368 kill percentage. 

The Rams' offense was led by Kelly Brinkman (Gardiner, N.Y.) who collected six kills. Whalen registered four kills with a .571 attack percentage.  Victoria Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.) dug up a team-high 18 ball in the loss for Framingham State. 

Later in the day they Rams fell 3-1 to Plymouth State. Deirdre Fay and Kelly Brinkman led the Rams with 8 kills a piece in the setback for the Rams while Mackenzie Whalen had three kills and a match-high 27 assists.

The Rams return to the floor when they host Anna Maria on Monday, October 16th.
