Volleyball Defeats Newbury 3-0

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team defeated Newbury College 3-0 this evening in non-conference action at the Athletic Center. The Rams took the match by scored of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-12.

With the win, the Rams improve to 8-14 on the season, while the Nighthawks are now 2-17.

The Rams received a solid performances from sophomore Brenna Marquis (Coventry, Conn.) and freshman Michaela Cronin (Hampden, Mass.)  Marquis was solid serving on the night recording nine serving aces to go along with three digs, while Cronin chipped in with a match-best nine kills on 13 attempts with just one error for a .615 hitting percentage.  Sophomore Alexandra Fish (Lincoln, RI) added seven kills and a pair of aces, while freshman Brandey Rodriguez (Lawrence, Mass.) also recorded seven kills on 19 attempts.  Junior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) picked up 23 assists and seven digs, while senior Vicki Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.) added 13 digs.

The Nighthawks received six kills, two digs and three blocks from freshman Stephanie Rheaume (Hampton, NH).  Senior Julia Leggett (Longview, Wash.) added four kills on 20 attempts with three assists and eight digs.  Senior Marlen Reynoso (Springdale, Ark.) added seven assists and seven digs with four aces, while freshman Maria Vanegas (East Boston, Mass.) recorded seven digs.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host MASCAC rival Worcester State and non-conference foe Plymouth State in a tri-match beginning at 11 a.m., while the Nighthawks host Southern Vermont College in a league match on Saturday at 1 p.m.
