Volleyball Splits a Pair of Matches with UMass Dartmouth and UNE

North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsairs 3-1 in one match of a non-conference tri-match at the Tripp Center before falling 3-0 to the University of New England.

With the split, the Rams are now 6-11 on the year.

The Rams dropped the first set 25-21 before taking three straight by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18.

The Rams were led on the attack by the duo of freshmen Abbie Badgett (Boston, Mass.) and Brandey Rodriguez (Lawrence, Mass.).  Badgett recorded 11 kills on 24 attempts with two blocks, while Rodriguez also recorded 11 kills with two digs.

Sophomore Alexandra Fish (Lincoln, RI) added eight kills and 10 digs, while freshman Michaela Cronin (Hampden, Mass.) also had eight kills with four blocks.  Junior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) added 37 set assists with 10 digs in the match, while senior Vicki Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Deirdre Fay (Cornwall, NY) had 23 and 14 kills, respectively.

In their second match of the day, the Rams were defeated by the Nor'Easters by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-18.

The Rams were led in the match by six kills from Rodriguez, while Cronin added five. Whalen recorded 18 set assist, while Fay chipped in with 11 digs.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Mount Holyoke for a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
