Volleyball Falls to Salem State in Straight Sets

Salem, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team was defeated this evening in straight sets by Salem State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) at Twohig Gymnasium.

The Vikings are now 8-6 on the year and 2-1 in conference after the victory, while the Rams fall to 5-10 overall and are also 2-1 in the MASCAC.

The Vikings defeated the Rams by scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-22.

The Vikings received a match-best 10 kills on 23 attempts and six blocks from Jasmine Severino, while Emily Russo added six kills and three digs.  Mackenzie Salls chipped in with five kills, 19 set assists and six digs.  The back row was led by 16 digs from Hannah Mullarkey and 14 from Morgan Adams.

The Rams attack was led by nine kills on 17 attempts from freshman Brandey Rodriguez (Lawrence, Mass.).  Rodriguez also added two assists, three digs and a team-best five blocks.  Classmate Abbie Badgett (Boston, Mass.) recorded six kills, four digs and a block.  The Rams back row was led by a match-best 19 defensive digs from senior Vicki Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.), while sophomore Alexandra Fish (Lincoln, RI) added 16 and three kills. Junior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) recorded 28 set assists with nine digs.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference tri-match with the University of New England beginning at 12 p.m.
