Volleyball Soars Past Fitchburg State 3-0

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team soared to a 3-0 victory this evening over Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Rams improve to 4-7 on the season and are now 2-0 in the league, while the Falcons fall to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the MASCAC.

The Rams cruised to the victory by scores of 25-9, 25-5 and 25-9.

The Rams were paced on the attach by seven kills and two blocks from senior Casie Thurber (Springfield, Mass.), while freshman Michaela Cronin (Hamden, Mass.) added six kills and two blocks.  Sophomore Deirdre Fay (Cornwall, NY) added six kills, three aces and nine digs.  Junior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) recorded 25 set assists with eight digs and five aces, while senior Vicki Anderson (Attleboro, Mass.) added seven digs.

The Falcons were led by four kills and seven digs from junior Kristina Osborne (Ashby, Mass.), while junior Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) and junior Katherine Carroll (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added two kills apiece.  Senior Serene Pease (Ashland, Mass.) chipped in with six digs, while Amy Coelho (Bellingham, Mass.) added five.

The Rams take to the road tomorrow for a non-conference tri-match at Smith College with Babson beginning at 2 p.m., while the Falcons travel to St. Joe's (CT) for a non-conference match tomorrow at 12 p.m.
